Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy—How Deep?

چکیده
Spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS) is a technique for interrogating the subsurface composition of turbid samples noninvasively. This study generically addresses fundamental question relevant to wide range SORS studies, which how deep probes any specific spatial when analyzing sample or, in turn, what magnitude one should select probe depth. issue addressed by using Monte Carlo simulations, under assumption negligible absorption, establishes that key parameter governing extent probed zone point-like illumination and collection geometry reduced scattering coefficient medium. can either be deduced from literature data or directly estimated measurement evaluating intensity profile multiple offsets. Once this known, determined simulation results presented here. The proposed method was tested experimental on stratified signal detected thin layer moved through stack layers both non-absorbing absorbing samples. simple methodology provides important additional information measurements with direct relevance applications including biomedical, pharmaceutical, security, forensics, cultural heritage.

Fluorescence suppression using micro-scale spatially offset Raman spectroscopy.
We present a new concept of fluorescence suppression in Raman microscopy based on micro-spatially offset Raman spectroscopy which is applicable to thin stratified turbid (diffusely scattering) matrices permitting the retrieval of the Raman signals of sublayers below intensely fluorescing turbid over-layers. The method is demonstrated to yield good quality Raman spectra with dramatically suppres...
متن کاملSeeing through bone with surface-enhanced spatially offset Raman spectroscopy.
Surface-enhanced spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SESORS) is a label-free vibrational spectroscopy that has the potential for in vivo imaging. Previous SESORS experiments have been limited to acquiring spectra using SERS substrates implanted under the skin or from nanoparticles embedded in tissue. Here we present SESORS measurements of SERS active nanoparticles coated with a Raman reporter ...
متن کاملNoninvasive authentication of pharmaceutical products through packaging using spatially offset Raman spectroscopy.
We demonstrate the use of spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS) in the identification of counterfeit pharmaceutical tablets and capsules through different types of packaging. The technique offers a substantially higher sensitivity than that available from conventional backscattering Raman spectroscopy. The approach is particularly beneficial in situations where the conventional Raman backs...
متن کاملTime-resolved spatially offset Raman spectroscopy for depth analysis of diffusely scattering layers.
The objective of this study is to use time-resolved (TR) Raman spectroscopy, spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS), and a combination of these approaches to obtain high quality Raman spectra from materials hidden underneath an opaque layer. Both TR Raman and SORS are advanced techniques that allow for an increased relative selectivity of photons from deeper layers within a sample. Time-res...
متن کاملA Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy Method for Non-Destructive Detection of Gelatin-Encapsulated Powders
Non-destructive subsurface detection of encapsulated, coated, or seal-packaged foods and pharmaceuticals can help prevent distribution and consumption of counterfeit or hazardous products. This study used a Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS) method to detect and identify urea, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen powders contained within one or more (up to eight) layers of gelatin capsules to d...
